PHILADELPHIA, PA, August 20, 2021 Senmer News Wire — Altovise Love-Craighead has been inducted into Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mrs. Love-Craighead began her career working for the family court, collecting child support payments. During this time, she struggled to finance her academic efforts in community college. When presented with an opportunity to take a test that would offer her a higher paying position, she discovered her calling. For more than two decades, Mrs. Love-Craighead served as a Law Enforcement Officer for the Philadelphia Police Department. She was recently promoted and is now a Chief Inspector. She holds a Bachelor of Science in business communications from Chestnut Hill College and a Master of Science in public safety management from Saint Joseph’s University.
As a police chief inspector, Mrs. Love-Craighead acts as a manager where she has become known for her community engagement skills, which spurred the police commissioner to elevate her to oversee the newly formed Community Relations Bureau, through which she ensures community engagement and inclusion throughout the area. Under her direction, the department has worked with deaf and hard of hearing communities, the LGBTQ community, young adults and cancer patients. Ultimately, she would like to work toward helping all police officers become community relations officers in order to ensure that policing is fair and impartial. For her work with the police department, Mrs. Love-Craighead received the Community Service Award from the Charles Foundation, the Commander’s Highlight Award from the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 and the Lucien Blackwell Guiding Light Award from Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell.
In addition to her primary work, Mrs. Love-Craighead participated in a three-volume writing, “Police Perspectives: Building Trust In A Diverse Nation, established by the U.S. Department of Justice. She also co-produced a film with Theater of Witness titled, “Walk In My Shoes”. This timely film uses real life people from communities of color and real police officers who discuss the divide between them. She also serves as a board member for the EMIR Healing Center. Throughout her career, she has been most grateful to collaborate with communities and police officers in an effort to establish better community/police relations. Moreover, Mrs. Love-Craighead enjoys utilizing her experience as a police officer together with her experience as a co-victim of homicide to teach officers about trauma and how being trauma-informed helps them better perform their jobs.
Mrs. Love-Craighead maintains her professional and community affiliations with Improving Social Determinants to Attenuate Violence Workgroup, the EMIR Healing Center, The Law Enforcement Action Partnership, the Keystone Crisis Intervention Team, the Police Executive Research Forum, the Fraternal Order of Police and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. Looking toward the future, she would like to spend more time with her husband. Mrs. Love-Craighead also aspires to expand the work she performs for the police department and start conducting presentations to inform departments about the history of policing in communities of color in light of the recent social justice protests.
