Approaching one million in total giving The Village Giving Circle’s all female membership elevates minority communities

DALLAS, TX, September 24, 2021 Senmer News Wire — According to a study released from the Center for Disaster Philanthropy, more than one-third of U.S. non-profits are in jeopardy of closing within two years because of the financial harm inflicted by the ongoing pandemic. For Texas, specifically Black-led nonprofits in the state, they’re facing additional risks to organizational longevity as a direct result of funding disparities. Only 22% of respondents stated their organization could operate at current capacity for six months or more.

The Village Giving Circle (at Texas Women’s Foundation), an all-female organization whose aim is to fund organizations that positively impact communities of color in North Texas, was borne out of a desire to harness the collective giving power of influential African-American women and aspiring philanthropists.

What started as a small group has quickly grown into one of the most successful philanthropies in North Texas. Citing over a 1,000% increase in member growth since 2017, The Village Giving Circle has given nearly one million in grants and donations to non-profits exclusively in the North Texas area.

“There is no better feeling than to see the power of collective giving in action, remarked Lisa Montgomery, co-founder of The Village Giving Circle. “The women of The Village and those who support us are passionate and intentional about providing resources to non-profit organizations who do so much to lift our community.”

Since its debut in 2009, North Texas Giving Day has generated hundreds of millions for area nonprofits. North Texas Giving Day organizers also noted that the coronavirus pandemic has posed challenges for many of the nonprofits taking part.

Donations raised for The Village Giving Circle during the North Texas Giving Day timeframe, will help TVGC continue to:

– Speak to the needs of effective often overlooked non-profits in the North Texas Area
– Elevate awareness of issues, initiatives, and efforts that affect or support African-Americans living and working in North Texas

– Award large, high-impact, strategically-selected grants to organizations and initiatives benefiting African-Americans

About The Village Giving Circle:
