Attributing much of her success to her father for encouraging her to do anything she wanted, Joe-Anne Charlesetta McCormick was inspired to pursue a career in nursing by her desire to help others. Attending Cass Technical High School where they had career focused curriculum, originally, she was enrolled in Performing Arts; where she earned credits to join AFTRA after acting in commercials and sit coms. Soon she realized her passion for helping people and changed to a Health and Human Services curriculum following her sophomore year. In her senior year she added a minor in Computer Technology. Once completed she moved to California and enrolled in The Institute of Medical Studies in Santa Monica where she studied and received her RN specializing in geriatrics and pediatrics. She then went on to Colorado Institute of Technology and majored in programming with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Programming with a minor in Health Services. She began her tenure with Queen of Angels Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in 1979 and remained there for 24 years in Nursing and Information Technology working graveyard shift. During her tenure at QAHPMC she was asked to volunteer for the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center where she held various positions and then was hired in 2005 for the Sexual Health Program assisting with testing, counseling, and Epidemiology as well as office administration where she currently continues to work now on a part time basis.

As a registered nurse and IT technician, Ms. McCormick decide to complement her knowledge and talent by attending The National Holistic Institute in 2000 studying to be a Licensed Massage Therapist. She was asked to join The Heart Touch Project by founder Shawnee Isaac-Smith. In 2001 she trained and joined TrinityKids Care, a program of Providence Trinity Care Hospice. At the time it was the only dedicated pediatric hospice program in Los Angeles and Orange counties for infants, children, and adolescents with life-limiting illnesses. TrinityKids Care currently remains one of the few children’s hospice programs in California.

In 2002, she accepted a position as IT Technician and often assisted as RN to the Surgery Center for Southern California Orthopedic Institute (COSI). This led to her current role as Telecom Administrator Analyst with the Southern California Orthopedic Institute, where she currently manages the telecommunications for all nine of the of the institute’s offices. She was instrumental in moving the organization into an all VOIP setting for Telecommunications and Voicemail, fax, and video conferencing. To further her skills, Ms. McCormick joined Ashford University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in health care administration and long-term care in 2014 and a master’s degree in health care administration in 2017.

Outside of her primary responsibilities, Ms. McCormick has been a volunteer trainer with The Heart Touch Project, they teach and bring compassionate, therapeutic touch to medically fragile and terminally ill individuals improving the lives for them, their families, and their caregivers. She is proud to have been presented with the Heart Touch Project’s Richard Rider Award for her contributions to the organization. She is also working with her brother to develop a non-profit organization called Myni’s House, to provide services to seniors’ veteran’s, disabled and homeless individuals. Other memberships of hers include the Mitel Users Group, Los Angeles Tech Leaders, The American Public Health Association, Trinity Kids Care and SAG-AFTRA; Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. Although she has accomplished many goals in life. She is always looking for new ventures, education, and ways to help others.
