SPRINGFIELD, VT, December 21, 2021 Senmer News Wire — Joanne M. Kraft has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After graduating from Houghton College in 1980, Ms. Kraft began her teaching career with the Springfield School district. Ms. Kraft primarily taught mathematics to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders at Riverside Middle School from 1980-1981 and again from 1986-2020.

In 1987, Ms. Kraft along with other math teachers introduced and implemented the national MathCounts program to Riverside students as an after school enrichment option. To date, the MathCounts program continues to help students actively focus on problem solving. MathCounts requires students to look deeper by connecting mathematics to both practical and abstract situations. Each year, a small group of Riverside students has had the opportunity to qualify for and compete in regional, state and national competitions.

Ms. Kraft completed a master’s degree from Antioch University in 1988 and continues to take graduate level courses to maintain her teaching licenses.

Ms. Kraft became involved in her profession as a result of her love for children. She was inspired by her own teachers at Springfield High School. During her senior year in 1976, Ms. Kraft helped out in a kindergarten classroom. This experience plus several summers of work as a camp counselor ignited her interest in teaching. Ms. Kraft attributes a lot of her teaching success to having strong working relationships with her colleagues. Ms. Kraft is grateful that the Springfield School District administration encouraged them to collaborate and work together in teams.

Having recently retired in 2020, Ms. Kraft continues to be involved with education with some substitute teaching, tutoring, and work with her local chapter of the Alpha Delta Kappa women’s educator organization. She is hoping to travel in the coming years. Notably, she has also discovered several letters written by her father during World War II. She eventually hopes to compile these and publish them as a book for family members.
