GILBERT, AZ, January 13, 2022 Senmer News Wire — Dr. Bernard Young has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Driven by a passion for the arts and teaching, Dr. Young earned a Bachelor of Arts in painting and art education from the Tyler School of Art and Architecture from Temple University. Following this accomplishment, he received a Master of Fine Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy from Cornell University. While in pursuit of his doctoral degree, he began as a professor for the University of Kentucky, where he remained between 1979 and 1988. When Dr. Eugene Grigsby, who was considered the father of multiculturalism in art education at the Arizona State University, was looking forward to his retirement, he met Dr. Young at a convention and asked him to take his place at the university. Dr. Young accepted the offer, applied for the position and became a professor at the university in 1988.

In order to remain aware of ongoing changes in the field, Dr. Young aligns himself with the National Art Education Association, and Brandywine Workshop and Archives with which he has been affiliated with for more than 40 years. Due to his outstanding breadth of knowledge, he has contributed to such works as “Art, Culture and Ethnicity,” “Multicultural Artworlds: Enduring, Evolving and Overlapping Traditions,” which was published by the National Art Education Association and “Diversity and Equity,” which will be featured in the 75th Anniversary Edition of the National Art Education Association in 2022. “Artura Teacher Guides” Book 1 (2020) and Artura (2021).

In light of his professional achievements, Dr. Young was inducted into the Distinguished Fellows Group of the National Education Association, earned three Outstanding Teaching Awards and received a scholarship grant through the National Science Foundation for his master’s degree and doctoral degree. While his career has been filled with highlights, he is most proud of the books he has published. Looking toward the future, Dr. Young intends to publish more books and articles, work on Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion issues in Higher Education and dedicate more time to studio practices.
