With more than 40 years’ experience as a practicing attorney, Dew currently serves as of counsel to DeLoof/Dever/Eby PLLC, where he counsels clients on various tax and estate planning matters. Experienced in handling federal tax issues, tax disputes, appeals and U.S. Tax Court litigation, Dew is also well-versed in counseling start-up and experienced businesses, handling mergers and acquisitions, business financing and business succession planning. He also serves as outside general counsel to many small and mid-sized businesses. He also has extensive experience in estate and asset protection planning.
Mr. Dew was also formerly a partner with Dever and Dew P.C. in Ann Arbor before being named a partner with Wise & Marsac and later Berry Moorman P.C. in Detroit. Prior to entering into private practice, Dew served as a Vice-President and Trust Office with Ann Arbor Trust Company (now KeyBank) in Ann Arbor. He also has six years’ experience as an agent with the Internal Revenue Service, primarily auditing federal estate and gift tax returns.
Dew has served as an adjunct professor, teaching courses in Wills & Trusts and Estate Planning with the Ave Maria School of Law in Ann Arbor; and later with the Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He has also taught courses for the American Institute of Paralegal Studies in Detroit and the American College of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. In addition, he is a frequent lecturer for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education on various tax and estate planning subjects.
Dew has served as an investigator for the Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission and is the chairperson of a Washtenaw County hearing panel for the Attorney Discipline Board. He is a former chairman of the Ann Arbor Public Housing Commission; a former Trustee of the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation; and serves as an Elder for his local church.
Dew earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1969 and a law degree from the Detroit College of Law (now Michigan State University Law School) in 1974. He is a member of Theta Xi social fraternity and Sigma Nu Phi, an honors fraternity for law students at Detroit College of Law.
Dew is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the Washtenaw County Bar Association (where he chaired both the Tax and the Estate Planning Sections), the Washtenaw New Enterprise Forum and the Washtenaw Estate Planning Council (where he served as President). He has been named a Fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation.
