NEW YORK, NY, March 09, 2022 Senmer News Wire — Marquis Who’s Who, the world’s premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present A. Christina Giannini with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Giannini celebrates many years’ experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

An award-winning costume and set designer, Ms. Giannini’s career has encompassed nearly 60 years of expertise in her respective fields. She currently excels as the owner of Studio Giannini in New York, a business that supports costume and set design. She also lectures often on the art of ballet costume design. A very competitive businesswoman, Ms. Giannini attributes her success to the magic of her collaborators, as she has had the privilege of working with so many incredibly talented artists as well as numerous renowned theater arts professionals.

Ms. Giannini’s extended portfolio has included contributing to over 10 ballets with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York City, five ballets at Joffrey Ballet with Gerald Arpino, and a one year apprenticeship with the Zurich Opera. She designed costumes for the 1965 Broadway production of “Me & Thee” for Roundabout Theatre, the 1969 Broadway production of “Three Men on a Horse”, and the 1981 production of “A Taste of Honey.” Ms. Giannini has further flourished as a resident designer at the Chautauqua Institution since 1995, a non-profit education center for adults and youth in Chautauqua, New York.

Christina Giannini collaborated for over twenty years with Jacqulyn Buglisi at Buglisi Dance Theater. She was a founding member of the North Carolina School of the Arts along with original founder Vittorio Giannini. She served as costume designer for two years, and continued doing special works for the next ten years. She collaborated for eight years with Vicente Nebrada at the Ballet Nacional in Caracas, Venezuela, for which she was awarded three Oscar Awards for Best Costume Design.

Remarkably, Ms. Giannini was the first designer to use lycra material to design dance costumes and developed a reputation for her extraordinary dyeing and painting skills. Throughout her career, she has been greatly inspired by Pauline Koner’s father, who was a talented tailor. Pauline Koner was notably the first modern dancer for which Ms. Giannini ever worked in the industry.

In her formative years, Ms. Giannini became passionate about art, particularly sculpting before discovering theater arts and, eventually, costume and set design. After high school, she pursued an education at the Douglass Residential College at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, from which she obtained a bachelor’s degree in 1959. Soon thereafter, Ms. Gianni completed postgraduate coursework at Birmingham School of Art in Birmingham, England between 1959 and 1960 and at the Zurich Opera Studio between 1963 and 1964.

She is a member of United Scenic Artists of America, a nationwide, self-governing Local of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, and has created dance works in fifteen countries. She also accepted a Contribution to the Arts Award from the state of Virginia. In 2019, Ms. Giannini was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Fini Festival.
