Mr. Davis earned a Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers University in 1962 and went on to attain a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Columbia Law School in 1965. He was admitted to the bars of New Jersey, New York and the U.S. District Court of New Jersey, after which, having been a Distinguished Graduate of the Rutgers Army R.O.T.C., he served for two years as an AG Captain on active duty as Chief Military Personnel Officer at Hq. Fort Myer, VA (1966-1967). Having worked as a lawyer for 50 years, he currently serves as a partner with Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith and Davis LLP. In addition to his primary career endeavors, Mr. Davis is also the Chairman of the Executive Compensation Committee for Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health System.
An expert in franchise law, Mr. Davis has authored and co-authored several works over the years, including “How Thirty-Four Words May Make A Difference,” “The New Protest Statute: Some Observations One Year After Adoption” and “Potential Pitfalls of Corporate Distributions.” He has also been invited as a speaker NJ CAR Business & Education Expo in 2014 and the New Jersey CAR Annual Meeting in 2013. Notably, Mr. Davis served as the principal draftsman of the original New Jersey Franchise Practices Act, which was enacted in 1971.
In recognition for his expertise, Mr. Davis was honored as the Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers and with a Robert N. Wilentz Lifetime Achievement Award from the Middlesex County Bar Association in 2014. Since 1981, he has held a place as one of the Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rated AV Preeminent. Mr. Davis has also been listed as one of the Best Lawyers in America since 1987 and among the New Jersey Super Lawyers since 2005.
As part of his passion and dedication to his field, Mr. Davis has been a member for several community organizations, including Monmouth Medical Center Board of Trustees and also its Foundation as well as the Board of Trustees of Monmouth University and its Foundation. He also served as one of two governor’s representatives on the Board of Trustees of the Public Employees Retirement System of New Jersey from 1995 to 2002.
