Jerome Karam has his eyes set on the Gulf Greyhound Park. Find out what he plans to do with it.
LA MARQUE, TX, April 26, 2022 Senmer News Wire — Jerome Karam, a Galveston County developer with many redeveloped properties, recently acquired Gulf Greyhound Park. After being closed for around two years, Jerome Karam and his wife Leslie have big plans for the La Marque, Texas, location. Karam recently revealed that it would evolve into an expansive grounds for major events, concerts, and entertainment.
The Gulf Greyhound Park stayed in operation for close to 30 years. After closing in June 2020, the property sat vacant while locals hoped that someone would make use of the large piece of land. Now, all of Galveston County has the opportunity to see top-level entertainment at a location that should bring in headliners.
This is the first time Karam, the man behind JMK5 Holdings LLC, has entered the La Marque, Texas market. He has been waiting to find a perfect project for him and his development company. He worked closely with Mayor Keith Bell to find something that made sense, and that’s when Gulf Greyhound Park popped up. After brainstorming what could become of this large development, he realized the area’s need for an entertainment venue.
Jerome Karam believes that the new development project could turn into one of the focal points of Galveston County. It will increase tax revenue by building up new surrounding development as well. Getting the chance to open up new local job opportunities is also a positive.
There’s quite a bit of history behind Gulf Greyhound Park besides being in business for close to three decades. Fans of college football are surprised to hear that the 88 acres were previously owned by the family of Bear Bryant.
After having success as a head coach at the University of Alabama, he and his family took part in several real estate ventures. Many patrons stayed loyal to the Gulf Greyhound Park right up until close. Growing pressure to put restrictions on greyhound dog racing played some role in forcing the park to close for good.
Karam remains quiet on any hard dates for when the new project will be ready to open. For now, his focus is on getting everything together and making sure that the business meets modern standards for entertainers. Top-level entertainers won’t consider Galveston County, Texas, unless there is a facility that lives up to their expectations.
