An accomplished musician and teacher, Mr. Thye has served since 2003 as the director of bands for his alma mater, Desert Vista High School, for which he also works as head of his department. Mr. Thye has also contributed his creative work to the Arizona Music Educator Association State Conference twice, in 2011 and 2019, and is a four-time invited performer for Carnegie Hall.

In recognition of his musical talent, Mr. Thye has received numerous honors throughout his career. To wit, he is a nine-time Arizona State Marching Champion with his marching band and has been named a finalist for the Governor’s Arts Award in 2013 and the Excellence in Education Award by Tempe Diablo in 2014. For his dedicated work as a teacher, he was honored with the Outstanding Teacher Award by his school in 2011 and received the “Best High School Teacher” award from Ahwatukee Foothills Newspaper in 2013.
