As a professor and chair of biochemistry, he teaches various courses in biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics to medical students. Furthermore, Dr. Bradbury performs administrative duties and participates in research primarily on fatty acids and fatty acid transporters.
Having led an accomplished career in academia since 1988, Dr. Bradbury spent his first four years as an instructor in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He subsequently served as a molecular biologist, an assistant professor and a consultant in the department of medicine until 2004. Dr. Bradbury also garnered professional appointments at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine between 2004 and 2013 and at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine from 2013 to 2014. Just prior to joining A. T. Still University, he distinguished himself as a professor of biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics, and as the chair of basic sciences at Northstate University College of Medicine between 2016 and 2018.
As a seasoned researcher, Dr. Bradbury became involved in the study of specific proteins and fatty acids uptake long before other scientists found relevance in it. This important body of work provides a better understanding of the liver and adipose tissue, as well as obesity, diabetes and liver disease, and has the potential to offer better treatment and intervention for patients in the future. Dr. Bradbury has also served as the principal and co-investigator for several studies, which were funded through grants by such organizations as the National Institutes of Health. His research has been disseminated through numerous scholarly articles, as well as via abstracts in peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Bradbury has served on several professional committees and has been active in numerous writers’ workshops throughout his professional career. He has also served as an item writer for COMLEX-USA Level 1 since 2005, which is a problem- and symptom-based assessment of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners, and as a reviewer for Medical Science Educator since 2014. Dr. Bradbury previously served as an associate editor for the Journal of Experimental Zoology and as an ad hoc reviewer for the American Journal of Physiology, MedSci Monitor, and other industry-related publications.
To prepare for his career, Dr. Bradbury received a Bachelor of Science in biology at the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1976, with the assistance of a National Merit Scholarship. He subsequently attended the prestigious Yale University, where he earned a Master of Philosophy in biology and a Doctor of Philosophy in biology in 1979 and 1982, respectively. Dr. Bradbury notably obtained a National Science Foundation fellowship to pursue his doctorate degree. Additional educational pursuits to his credit include a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California at Davis.
Dr. Bradbury has been active with the American Society of Biochemistry and Microbiology, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, the Association of Biochemistry Educators and, among others, the Society for Developmental Biology. Highlighting his achievements, Dr. Bradbury was named as the Reviewer of the Year by Medical Science Educators in 2020. He previously received the LECOM Research Day Poster Award from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2013 and was recognized with a Best Abstract Award from the Society for Gynecological Investigations in 1989.
