An expert in emergency medicine, Dr. Roberts has distinguished himself as a physician and educator for more than 45 years. To prepare for his medical career, he earned a Doctor of Medicine from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in 1972. Following this accomplishment, Dr. Roberts undertook an internship with Alameda Health System-Highland Hospital the same year and a residency in emergency medicine at the Drexel University College of Medicine and Hahnemann University in 1974.
After completing the program, Dr. Roberts was admitted to a fellowship in medical toxicology with Bellevue Hospital of New York University in 1978. Well-qualified in his field, he is certified in emergency medicine and holds licenses in Pennsylvania.
Having retired in 2019, Dr. Roberts previously served as the vice chairman and a professor for the emergency medicine department at the Drexel University School of Medicine. A leader in his field, he also established the Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association in 1976. In recognition of his expertise, he has been honored with numerous teaching awards, including an Outstanding Contribution in Education Award by the American College of Emergency Physicians in 2016. Dr. Roberts was also named as one of Top 30 Most Influential Emergency Physicians in the Country by the same institution.
In addition to his primary career endeavors, Dr. Roberts has authored a definitive text in emergency medicine procedures, titled “Roberts and Hedges Clinical Procedures in Emergency Medicine.” He is also the award-winning author of the best-read column of Emergency Medicine News, a newspaper that is read by 40,000 physicians across the country. He has sat as the chairman of the editorial board for 30 years and writes a medical article for the publication each month. As further evidence of his commitment to his field, he is a member of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine and the American College of Medical Toxicology. Dr. Roberts was also admitted as a fellow to the American College of Emergency Physicians.
Although he is presently retired from practicing medicine, Dr. Roberts hopes to continue writing and teaching to help mentor the next generation of physicians.
