Having earned her teacher’s license in 2004, Mrs. LaCourt has since dedicated her career to providing an excellent education to her students. To prepare for her profession, she received a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Mexico in 2000, while she was a substitute teacher and case manager with Youth Development Inc. for four years. She completed her teaching certificate at New Mexico Highlands University. Following this period, she transferred to Laguna-Acoma High School and Cubero Elementary School over a period of four years. Beginning in 2009, Mrs. LaCourt served as a gifted education teacher for Albuquerque Public Schools until her retirement in 2016. During this time, she also worked as the head teacher for Carlos Rey Elementary School from 2015 to 2016.

From 2010 to 2015, during her tenure as a gifted education teacher, Mrs. LaCourt coordinated a local professional learning community for gifted elementary teachers that provided classes in animation and computer coding, among other activities. Additionally, she served as the treasurer and president of the board of directors for the New Mexico Association for the Gifted. In recognition for her expertise and hard work, Mrs. LaCourt was honored with a Distinguished Service Award for Gifted Education by the New Mexico Association for the Gifted in 2016.

Committed to offering children the opportunity to succeed in her community, Mrs. LaCourt has served as a board member for the local Little League baseball teams and functioned as a troop director, trainer and service unit manager for the Girl Scouts of America. She also gives back to her community by volunteering in mission work on behalf of the United Methodist Women organization. Mrs. LaCourt taught Church School for many years. Although she is retired, Mrs. LaCourt intends to continue building her knowledge and expanding her horizons. She also plans to spend more time traveling with her grandchildren.
